Members United

We are ordinary Unite members standing to build a strong, united union – one that has our back.

Why us?

With the cost of living skyrocketing, our jobs being outsourced, and many of us facing redundancy or even workplace closures, Unite members urgently need a strong, united union that has our back — and wins for us.

We will make sure the Executive Council comes together to solve problems and put members first. The union belongs to us, the members, and we need it to be a united and effective force for change.

Members United will grow our membership, build a fierce industrial presence, and ensure a strong Unite voice that always stands up for workers.

Winning at work—An industrial strategy that puts winning at work and sustainable organisation at the heart of our union, with elected reps deciding what’s best for their Workplaces with no member left behind.

An Industrial Approach—Clear industrial priorities should be set by the membership in every sector, working with our industrial officers both regionally and nationally.

A Member-Led Union—A democratic, united, and accountable Executive Council that upholds the rules and earns trust. The EC is the elected voice of members at the top of the union — it must be treated as such.

Strong Finances—Our union’s finances must be sustainable so we can deliver tomorrow as well as today. Members need to know how their money is spent, and subs must be proportionate and affordable.

Marie Casey

Membership No: 13976326
Branch: RI/B8002

Rancour has taken over our union and for the last 5 years I have worked hard in that environment to serve you the members. I serve all members, not just those who voted for the current regime. I deplore the factionalism imposed on our union from the top and I believe that our union will not survive another 5 years of the current chaos and gross mismanagement.

I pledge to continue to fight to bring our union back to being the decent, empathetic and caring organisation a union should be. We must re-unite our union and fight for a leadership that is about unity and togetherness, not narcissism, abuse, tirades and waste.

As a worker and Union member, as a rep for decades, as a women, as an anti-racist and as a socialist I pledge to fight to re-unite Unite and save our union from the current chaos.

Vote No1 Marie Casey.

London & Eastern

Getaneh Tesfaye

Membership No: 14927708
Branch: LE/382

I’m Getaneh Tesfaye and I have proudly served our union for over 20 years — six of those as Chair of a large London bus garage. During this time, I have successfully led several key campaigns.

The first secured proper facilities for our drivers at the end of their routes, turning a long-standing struggle into a lasting improvement. The second focused on diversity and tackling inequality in the workplace, resulting in a major policy change at my company to promote fairness and inclusion. The third began at my garage before expanding across London, successfully saving 16 routes from being axed.

I support the movement to reunite our union and if elected as London & Eastern Executive member, I will continue to fight for all members across every sector, ensuring our union is transparent, accountable, and strong in defending workers’ rights.

Together, can make our union even stronger.

Mark Dunne

Membership No: 20081564
Branch: LE/7113L

I’m Mark Dunne, Branch Secretary and Staff side chair at East London NHS Foundation Trust, and seeking your nomination for London and Eastern’s Territorial Executive seat.

I chair and sit on several regional and national committees, ensuring members voices are heard.

I’ve been a mental health nurse and Union member in the NHS for 25 years. For most of this time, I’ve been an active workplace representative and campaigner.

After years of austerity, our region’s members face serious and multifaceted challenges.

Public services cut to the bone, the rise of the far right, terms & conditions eroded, pay so stagnant workers are drowning in the cost of living crisis.

We need a cohesive Executive with coherent and serious strategies.

I support the movement to reunite our union. No more disruptive division, let’s rebuild our industrial and political strength, demand accountability with members money, and overcome division with unity.

Owen Scarlett‑Gilpin

Membership No: 14946378
Branch: LE/806

I’m Owen Scarlett-Gilpin and I’m seeking your nomination for the London & Eastern Territorial Executive seat. I have been a union representative for more than 20 years in the road transport sector and now sit on various Regional committees that strive to improve the health and safety, terms and conditions and dignity of our membership.

I became a rep after a friend and mentor told me that problems will never be resolved by doing nothing and have since supported many members and friends, individually and collectively, through difficult times and situations.

I believe our Union has lost its sense of duty to our members. We need a strong Executive which holds the Administration to account and develops progressive policies.

I support the movement to reunite our union. Let’s rebuild our industrial and political strength, demand accountability with members’ money, and overcome division with unity. Thank you.

Stephen Payne

Membership No: 14990580
Branch: SC/21

Branch Chair for over 1,500 members | Workplace Representative with 11 years’ experience

I am seeking your branch/workplace nomination for the 2026 Unite Executive Council elections, standing for the Territorial Seat representing Scotland.

I am currently Branch Chair of Unite SC21 at Lothian Buses, representing over 1,500 members. I have been a Unite member for 23 years and a workplace representative for 11 years, with a proven record of standing up for members, defending jobs, and challenging employers when it matters.

Across the Scottish region and the Passenger Transport sector, I hold a number of elected and representative roles, including Vice-Chair of the Scottish Region, Vice-Chair of NISC, Delegate to the Scottish RISC, Passenger Transport representative on the Drivercare Appeal Board, Director of ROSCO, Passenger Transport delegate to the SSDF Committee. These roles give me a clear understanding of the issues facing our members on the ground and the decisions being taken at the top of the union.

I believe Unite in Scotland must be strong, united, and member-led. That means real democracy, transparent and accountable leadership, and militant industrial organisation that puts working people first. We must rebuild trust, end internal divisions, and focus our energy where it belongs — winning for our members, defending pay, conditions and public services, and using our collective power to challenge bad employers and hostile governments.

As your Executive Council representative, I will work to re-unite the union, strengthen our industrial and political influence in Scotland, and ensure members’ funds are protected, accountable, and used to build real workplace power.

I also ask you to support the Scottish nomination of Sylvia Stewart, in the interests of a strong and united Scottish region.

In unity there is strength

Throughout my term I have challenged constructively and questioned effectively to ensure decisions are made in the best interests of our members. Now more than ever we must uphold democracy, scrutiny and transparency in all that we do—because a strong union must also be an accountable one.

Unite’s strength lies not only in our workplaces but in the communities we serve. I am proud of the work we do locally, regionally and nationally and of our solidarity with workers across the globe. Together, we are part of a movement that defends dignity, equality and opportunity for all.

Industrial

Automotive Industries

Debbie Dempsey

MN: 30779134
LE/1115

Rep since 2007 | Vice-Chair of our national committee and salaried site Chair at Dagenham.

I have worked for Ford Motor Company since 1988 when I started as an apprentice mechanical fitter, the first female to do so in Ford UK. I’m currently a Supervisor in Transport Operations based at Dagenham, Essex.

I am a resilient individual with a passion for the automotive industry, an industry that is facing the biggest transformation of a lifetime. Employers are being opportunistic during this transition, attacking jobs, pay and conditions. The climate crisis is not disputed, but there must be a Just Transition for our workforce. We must stand united against greedy employers and lobby the Government to back our industry to secure good jobs for the next generation. I will serve the automotive sector with integrity, as I have done for the last 3 years.

Craig McDonald

MN: 31553043
NE/200/7

Current Executive Council rep for the Automotive Sector

Our sector faces challenges especially the recent closure of Luton and the disastrous cyber-attack at JLR, which has resulted in a devastating effect on the supply chain.

We must continue to demand the same rights as our European colleagues on consultation and exit costs so that multi-national companies are unable to solve problems of a global nature at the expense of members.

I’m passionate about lay member democracy which has been the strength of our Union, and with the support and nomination of your branch I will prioritise the interests of our members.

Let’s reunite our union, let’s rebuild our industrial and political strength, demand accountability with members money, and overcome division with unity.

I’m seeking your branch nomination as your EC representative for CAT in the upcoming Executive Council election 2026. My commitment is clear, every member should feel valued and included within our union. No one should feel marginalised because of where they work, everyone matters.

In my current roles as Deputy Convenor, Workplace Representative, and Health & Safety Representative at MAG Stansted Airport, combined with my experience on the CAT NISC and as a long-standing RISC delegate, I bring extensive knowledge of the challenges our members face, both now and in the future.

I ask for your support, regardless of region or workplace, to make sure your voice is represented.

Together with my colleagues we aim to ensure transparent governance of the union, provide effective scrutiny of the leadership and uphold our democratic trade union principles.

Comrades, it has been an honour to serve as Executive Councillor for the CPPT sector for the last nine years, and I’m asking for your branch’s nomination for the new term.

Make no mistake, our sector is in the fight of its life. I’ve worked tirelessly supporting members and taken the fight to the Government to change the policies we need to survive, delivering speeches across the world highlighting our issues.

And I won’t stop. I have held sub-sector conferences to understand the issues affecting our members, so I can drive change. I have worked with governments, European and global union federations, and international unions on decarbonisation, net zero, green energy, just transition, and skills to understand the impacts this will have on our members.

But there’s more to do. Vote for me, and let me continue this work, which will be vital for all members in the CPPT sector.

Education

Ken Drury

Membership No: 30990807
Branch: NW/0398M

Colleagues, I seek your support for re-election to the EC as your representative in Education, to help build on the things that I have already achieved, such as:

  • Visiting all parts of the UK and Ireland, as well as the Isle of Man. Trying to give all members and reps a voice, when so many have felt left out. The first time I believe anyone has attempted this.
  • Combining meetings with a social, so reps and members feel at ease and look forward to them, knowing that we have a lot of the same Issues and tackle them together.

I am convinced that this approach, that started with the Estates forum and then working with the chair of the new Technicians forum as well as FE (and hopefully Gallery’s, Museums, and Library’s next) is part of why our sector has, I believe, its highest membership ever.

Cheers, Ken Drury.

Energy and Utilities

Mark Jones

Membership No: 20522288

Our Energy & Utilities sector needs a strong, effective voice on the Executive Council — one that listens and delivers. I will be that voice.

I merged two branches to build a united, stronger voice. As London and Eastern’s Regional Industrial Sector Committee Chair, I won unanimous support for long-overdue constitutional reforms — delivering a more diverse, representative, and inclusive delegation that’s already making an impact. I’m a seasoned rep who knows real power comes from hearing members and fighting for them.

My focus is clear:

  • A Just Transition: Protecting jobs with guaranteed retraining.
  • Fair Pay: Securing above-inflation pay rises.
  • Safe Workplaces: Zero compromise on your health and safety.

I will take your priorities to the highest level and get results.

Vote for a voice that listens and delivers. Vote for Mark Jones.

We stand together as candidates for Unite’s Executive Council, representing HGV Drivers, Warehouse, and Logistics workers. Our sectors are the backbone of the economy, yet too often our voices have been sidelined. We believe it is time to put transport and logistics workers at the heart of Unite’s future.

As National Chairs, we have seen first-hand the strength, resilience, and determination of our members. We know that when drivers and warehouse workers act together, we win. That is why our campaign is rooted in unity: reuniting our union, reconnecting with members, and rebuilding confidence in democratic, accountable leadership.

We reject division and bureaucratic drift. Unite must be a fighting union, led by its members, not distant structures. We will champion grassroots democracy, defend jobs and conditions, and ensure our union stands firm against exploitation in every workplace.

Our pledge is simple: to give transport and logistics workers a strong, principled voice on the EC, and to work tirelessly to unite our union around collective action, solidarity, and justice. Together, we can deliver a union that is democratic, and proud to represent every member.

I am seeking your branch/workplace nomination to represent Women Members on the Executive Council in the 2026 election. A TGWU/Unite member of 33 years, including 31 years as a branch official, union and equality rep, I am currently Branch Secretary for Reading Buses.

I’ve represented members at all levels, including the South-East Regional Women’s and National Women’s Committees. I stand firm and make our members’ issues and concerns heard, defending lay member democracy and ensuring we have full executive reports to hold the union to account.

I’m proud to represent a diverse Membership with a strong female voice. I’m passionate about equality and fairness. I will be a strong voice on the EC, will campaign hard and stand firm to make sure our members have a strong union at their back
